Commission

New ideas from Awarded artists

Commissioning is an extension of our Awards process — supporting new ideas from creative teams we have already encountered, that warrant sustained development over time. Commissioning at Pipeline is not a single moment of support, but a structured, three phase process.

* Commissions are extended only to previous Award recipients.

1. First Draft Support

Commissioned teams receive financial support to complete a first draft of their new musical. During this period, Pipeline provides dramaturgical feedback on request, to facilitate creative team progress.

2. Residency

Approximately one year into the process, commissioned teams participate in our week-long, paid Residency program. During this time, artists present a reading of the first draft and continue developing the work in a focused, collaborative environment with peer and dramaturgical feedback.

3. New York Presentation

Following the residency, commissioned projects return for a New York–based presentation of the next iteration of the work. This phase allows the piece to be experienced again after revision, as it continues to clarify its structure and direction.
